Four legendary hounds. Four haunting tales. One striking coaster set.

Bring the darker side of British and Welsh folklore into your home with this set of four Gothic coasters, featuring Cŵn Annwn, Black Shuck, the Church Grim and the Barghest.

Each supernatural hound is depicted in an intricate vintage engraving style, surrounded by an ornate Celtic knotwork border. Predominantly black, cream and sepia, the designs are brought dramatically to life by flashes of vivid red.

The Hounds and Their Legends

Cŵn Annwn – The Hounds of the Welsh Otherworld
Recognisable by their ghostly white coats and red ears, the Cŵn Annwn are the hunting hounds of Annwn, the Otherworld of Welsh mythology. They are traditionally associated with Arawn, ruler of Annwn, and later became linked with the spectral Wild Hunt.

Black Shuck – The Phantom Hound of East Anglia
Black Shuck is a huge spectral black dog said to roam the coastline, country lanes and churchyards of East Anglia. Frequently described with blazing red eyes, its sudden appearance was often feared as a warning of approaching misfortune.

The Church Grim – Guardian of Sacred Ground
Unlike many phantom hounds, the Church Grim is traditionally a protector. Appearing as a large black dog, this mysterious guardian spirit watches over an old church and its graveyard, defending the sacred ground from intruders and those who would desecrate it.

The Barghest – The Monstrous Hound of the North
The Barghest belongs to the folklore of northern England, particularly Yorkshire. It is described as an enormous, fearsome black dog with great teeth and claws, haunting lonely roads, ancient towns and remote stretches of countryside.

Perfect for lovers of British folklore, Welsh mythology, Gothic décor, supernatural legends and mysterious creatures of the night.
